Technical audits remain one of the most crucial activities of post-award activities. Aside from the monitoring and reporting done during and at the end of the contract respectively, auditing is an important element of any financial system, let alone public contract management cycle. GCU recommends that auditing can be done in the traditional way where all documents relating to a transaction (in this case the contract) are examined to assess compliance with laid down laws, regulations, policies and indeed the contract itself. This should be complemented by a form of field verification where transactions are assessed together with the physical item which are subject of the transaction. It is also recommended the auditing institution should have the requisite knowledge of the subject of the contract so that they can adequately assess effectiveness of contract implementation and administration
