Contract vetting by the Government Contracting Unit (GCU) in the Office of the President and Cabinet aims to strengthen contract management to increase eligibility of payments from both the consolidated budget and donor-financed programmes. GCU was created with the mandate to review, consider, vet, negotiate and pass contractual proposals before they are concluded on behalf of Malawi Government with the aim of improving contracts performance in the public service. This means that only advantageous contracts that have value for money should be passed for implementation. This also means that GCU provides leadership for guiding MDAS by ensuring optimal performance, value for money, timeliness and cost effectiveness in the delivery of public contracts, concessions and development agreements for the betterment of the people of Malawi
